Free Shakespeare in the Park in Saratoga, CA

Shady Shakespeare Theatre Company is committed to making Shakespeare accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds and to building community through cultural participation. Our mission is to share the works of William Shakespeare in a way that demystifies the rich and challenging language of Shakespeare without dumbing it down. We currently produce two plays in repertory each summer, free-to-the-public.

Shady Shakespeare (a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization) is operated entirely by volunteers whose duties include everything from set and costume production, to fundraising, to concession sales, and much more. Our audience ranges from long-time theatre lovers to families with young children who are experiencing theatre for the first time. We hope you will consider joining the SSTC family either by volunteering or by simply coming to enjoy a show.

  • Founded in 1999 by Dinna Myers, Sara Betts and Jeff Day.
  • Performances held at Sanborn-Skyline County Park outside of Saratoga, CA
  • Member of Theatre Bay Area, The Shakespeare Theatre Association of America, and The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce
  • Shady Shakespeare currently has no paid administrative staff.
  • All artists who participate in our productions are paid a stipend for their craft and artistry.
  • Shady Shakespeare is funded by corporate grants, philanthropic entities, fundraising events, and by private donations
  • Wave Magazine 2007 Silicon Valley Theatre Award recipient for Standout Classical Production for our 2006 production of The Taming of the Shrew, directed by Angie Higgins and Sharon Salazar.
  • Runner Up for Best Local Theatre Company by Metro Readers Best in Arts and Culture 2005.
